Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon Launch the #DontFrackNY Video Contest

New York’s Gov. Cuomo recently delayed until February a decision on whether to allow fracking for gas in the state. To help inform the Governor and the public, Artists Against Fracking announces the #DontFrackNY video contest. Help us make the case in the most compelling and moving way.

The Rules
We’re looking for two types of videos: a 30-second TV ad and a short video. The 30-second TV ad should be directed at the Governor. The short video should focus on educating people about the hazards of fracking and gas company propaganda and be no more than three minutes long.

Aside from the length limits, we aren’t putting any restrictions on your video submissions. You may enter work in either one or both categories. Show us your creativity!

All videos should be submitted by January 20.

The Prize
Artists Against Fracking founders Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon will judge the submissions and choose one winner from each category. The creators of the winning videos will get to have lunch with the two celebrity judges in New York City.

The winning TV ad will also be broadcast as a paid ad in New York City and Albany. The winning short video will be featured on the Artists Against Fracking website, on Causes.com and other social media plus sent out widely by activist groups.

The Submission
Once you’re ready to make a submission, upload the video(s) to YouTube or Vimeo, and then fill out our entry form. Check out our submission guidelines for more details.

Happy filming!

  8. Hello Lennon-Ono’s:

I have been an artist now for many years but I have a degree in hydrogeology from the University of Waterloo in Ontario and worked in that field for a long time. Fracking seems like the worst thing for us to be doing if we are interested in the quality of our underground drinking water suppies. I am no video maker but perhaps I can help in some other way. Please let me know. I’ve always admired you very much.

  9. Hi there, just wanted to say, I enjoyed this article. It was funny. Keep on posting!

  10. Kelley C says:

I look forward to making more creative statements about this issue now and into the future.

  12. Allison E says:

I am glad that this site has been set up. Can it also act as a place to see what artists all over the states, N America and the world are doing to bring attention to this terrible thing. Our small community in Colorado is trying to think of things that we can do to call attention to our own struggle and want to learn what others have been doing and what we can adapt to our own situation. Please help by setting up a photo gallery. THANKS for all you have done.

  13. Stew Weston says:

    Fracking BAD!

  14. Chris Tate says:

Thanks so much for taking a leadership role in this, the fight for our water, and thus our lives….!

  15. Scott Cannon says:

I submitted a 30 second commercial to this contest, but I have not received any confirmation that it was received by you. Can you let me know if you got it?
